Alpine life.
It’s so nice thinking you will see snow each day, whether by your feet or on the mountains overhead. The Alps are my kind of place- with scenery both mighty yet welcoming and peaceful.I have now been here just over three weeks – which I cannot quite believe! Time goes quickly when you are having a lot of fun! I am enjoying running, taking in the elements that come with that in a snowy climate, as well as having the chance to ski!
While out in the Alps I am working for Epic TV, which is really ace and I am loving it. A great team with a common love of the outdoors and adventure makes each day of work a total blast! It’s great to be challenged and to learn more about other adventure sports and equipment that you were less familiar with too. Two series that I have been enjoying watching from Epic TV lately : Wild Women and Avalanche Awareness. The first gives a glimpse at the lives of some amazingly talented, strong and yet such humble women in different extreme sports. The second I have found particularly useful as I learn more about touring and off piste skiing.
I decided that in order to progress with off-piste and to gain some more confidence and practical knowledge, I would try and find a group and have an instructor take us out. I contacted the incredibly friendly team at Tinderbox ski school and have the biggest smile on my face after a truly adventurous day yesterday! Chris, our instructor was awesome, and I felt just that bit more confident despite frequent strong blizzard conditions and pretty dense snow! It was a great group and we had a lot of laughs as we took on the tour together!
Working out training for running in a totally different environment when you are also living in different places has been an interesting challenge, but I am loving running out here. Whether that is a speed session in the dark and it’s raining; episodes of virtually ice skating; to finding your feet on snowier paths or a bit more incline – it’s a great place to be! For some of the times I have spent running more directly on snow, I have used these snow shoe grips that Nikki brought me (similar can be brought on amazon). I am considering getting spikes at some point in the future – but for the meantime these definitely are a great option.
It might sound a bit dramatic to say this trip to the Alps so far has been ‘life changing’, but then I think travel, adventures and having experiences has that affect on you. So far, I’ve learnt a lot, I’ve come across different challenges, and I’m looking forward to what is next.
